Les Mis Ch 12

In Les Mis Ch 12, to my understanding (which I might add is not very much), it is talking about how young people in the church "climb up the ladder". They never stay with the bishop for very long because although he is very kind, that will not help them "succeed". It then continues on about how luck is good for success and about the mistake of confusing merit and success. I wish I could have grasped more of what it was trying to tell me but my mind wanted to wander while reading this chapter. Overall though, I do understand a little about how merit and success are not the same things though they are often confused with each other.
