This chapter of Les Mis was like a cup of hot chocolate after coming in from a snowstorm, so warm with a sense of peace and calm. We see the outsider treated with respect, likely for the first time in his life, he finally reaches a place where is not treated as inferior. The outsider is given a warm meal, a bed, is called sir, and even the whole set of silverware was placed out for him. It gives you a sense of happiness of seeing someone get back on their feet.
