My thoughts about the first chapter of Les Miserables were kind of mixed. I felt bad for the sir, ma'am, and the other ma'am but at the same time, I felt like it was justified. They used to be part of the French aristocracy and I know they treated the common people horribly, raising taxes so they could live a life of luxury while the commoners suffered.
